Since the 15th century St Nicholas’ Chapel has been a centrepiece of  Kings Lynn’s life. Entering through its West Door is a jaw dropping experience. Its historical significance and venue for many Festival musical events continues that tradition to the present day. Since 1992 it has been vested to the Churches Conservation Trust (CCT). In 2003 the Friends of St Nicholas’ Chapel (We are a registered Charity No. 1099693 ) were formed to protect, promote and manage the building on behalf of the CCT, which they did until 2015, when refurbishment of the Chapel was completed, along with the rehanging  of the bells. Since then the CCT has employed a manager and a development officer to further enhance the building’s use in the community and its commercial viability. The Heritage Lottery Funding, which was largely responsible for its recent refurbishment, funds these two staff posts . The Friends continue to help and advise in this process. There are currently about 100 Friends and from them there is a committee who meet regularly. This funding ends in 2018 and the Friends may once again  need to be more active participants in the Chapel’s management.

The Friends are keen to increase their membership and attract people with a range of skills and knowledge to join our committee or to undertake specialist tasks to enhance the building. We are also interested in fundraising for several restoration projects such as the reredos and servicing the Organ.

We would welcome you to join us either to contribute to the maintenance of the Chapel or to participate in the welcome to our visitors who come from far and wide.
